The Free Shipping Society Of Today

Everyday I get the question “Do you offer free shipping?”, and everyday I say, “No try Amazon.”. More and more people assume that they should have free shipping for everything they want or need regardless of cost or dimensions. First let me be clear so all of the readers pondering the free shipping question understand that nothing is free.

Shipping and freight companies still charge for their services, if they didn’t they wouldn’t be companies they’d be out of work. Buying products online is commonplace in our modern age of smart connected devices and 5g networks and customers have become conditioned to the marketing illusion of “Free Shipping”. So much conditioning has occurred that it influences shopping behavior and final purchase decisions.

Today’s online shopper typically does research (and I use this term loosely) before deciding on where to buy. Price, availability, and lastly shipping influence the process and in the end the customer feels smarter because they think they were the driving force in the deal. Getting the object of your desire at a savings plus “free shipping” leaves you giddy with dopamine, you feel great about your purchase. Well dopamine is what our brains use to express the sensation of pleasure and the big online sellers know and exploit this fact to their benefit.

The part that makes this article a bit sad is that when I get calls from people needing parts for their “Zodiac” it’s often found they don’t even have a Zodiac. Their version of Zodiac is a Chinese special they got for less $$ plus free shipping. How could you not buy it? It was thousands less than the Zodiac and it came with free shipping! It’s like they are giving money away!

Remember NOTHING IS FREE….

Someone stills pays to ship that item from it’s origin, someone still pays to get it to the warehouse, someone still pays to get it packed and fulfilled, and someone still pays to have it travel to your door. If you think that someone isn’t you then you’re sorely mistaken. The next time you ask someone for free shipping why not just ask them to charge you less or give you the genuine product and not some knock off instead? These big companies that make billions a year and give nothing back to the community other than “free shipping” are making billions off of your dopamine levels.

If it doesn’t say Zodiac on it it’s not a Zodiac, and no we don’t offer free shipping. We are not Amazon or Ebay or some clearing house for junk. IBC sells genuine products at fair prices with shipping options for those customers who don’t live in the area. We employ actual humans, we support our local economy, U.S. Veterans, women, and people of all colors and walks of life. If you want free shipping we’d have to raise our prices because no business can keep it’s doors open by giving money away. This modern society of free shipping is one of the great hive mind marketing scams of our age, don’t fall prey to instant gratification through dark marketing to your dopamine centers.
