Portland Boat Show 2018 Day Two

It’s the start of day two at The Portland Boat Show and usually on day two we post a few pics.

Sure it’s better to see the boats in person, but not all of you can make it to The Portland Boat Show and it’s this reason we put up the galleries. Videos will be forthcoming and added to the blog area so check back often for the full high def experience. If you are going to the Seattle Boat Show you will still have a chance to see the premier of Zodiac’s Open 7 RIB in the US. To say that Zodiac has put other makers on notice would be an under statement! The Zodiac Open 7 has something for everyone including the speed demon and the casual boater alike. Looking towards the future and the ever changing role a boat has in it’s lifetime Zodiac has included expansion capabilities that allow the user to add or subtract seating and accessories with ease. This sort of functionality or as we say in the military segment “mission configurability” makes the Open 7 peerless in the recreational market. Advanced materials and manufacturing techniques ensure that the Zodiac Open 7 will never be outdated and removable/replaceable tubes in commercial grade mean it will always look it’s best and perform like a stallion.

We are closing up our Portland location early for the duration of the Portland Boat Show so please call to see if we will be there if you want to visit the showroom. (503)235-2628.

Portland Rose Festival Dragon Boat Races 2017

Well it’s that time of year again, time to get out the trusty Bombard Commando C4R and get out on the water to support the Portland Rose Festival and the 2017 Dragon Boat Races. Every year IBC provides a boat and an operator to the City of Portland for the festivities ensuring safety and support standards that make everyone rest easy.

Mike’s Rescue Go Bag ready for most things on the water.

For the last several years IBC has been sending Mike down with his Bombard Commando C4R and 40hpTLDI outboard. This winning combo means that even with seven people in the boat Mike can still get on plane and maneuver quickly. If a rescue situation occurs this package covers the miles in minutes to retrieve the victim or victims and quickly deposit them on the beach for EMS responders. Other missions Mike and the proven Bombard Commando C4R complete are course security patrols, media trips, V.I.P. transportation, and integrating with local and federal agencies to support their missions.

Mike likes the Bombard Commando for river missions over the other options because you are able to leverage an incredible amount of the usable horse power and run thru sections too shallow or obstructed for other vessels. This bit of knowledge isn’t going unnoticed as more and more agencies are putting the Bombard Commando on their missions to manage tough water where they operate. See Capt. Ron run his C3 Commando thru the Peyete River and “Devil’s Staircase” and you’ll see IBC has been doing this stuff for awhile. This video was shot in the early 80’s, we were doing it back then and we still do it today!

This is a hard earned knowledge base and one that sets IBC apart from the competition. We use the boats we sell and we use them very hard.

The TLDI 40hp outboard motor is clean burning with a 3 star rating and fuel efficient  enough to make the new four stroke motors scratch their heads. When the mission needs 2 stroke pep and power IBC has you covered with the TLDI series of outboards new with a 5 year warranty. (Government Pricing Available)

New clean burning and quiet 2 stroke outboards are available at IBC that meet CARB requirements.

As the weekend unfolds Mike will be on station downtown is his indefatigable Bombard Commando C4R wearing IBC banners so if you see him on the beach say hi.

Flying the banner for the event.

Pictures of the event will be coming next week, to talk to IBC about getting your own ultimate Commando package give the guys a call (503)235-2628 or shop online thru IBC’s industry leading secure website.

NW Sportsman Show Booth #1143

Adam and Mike will be on hand for the 2017 NW Sportsman Show the Portland Expo Center February 8-12 in booth #1143. The Inflatable Boat Center will be showing one of their Special Boat Division’s packages called the “RECON”.

This model is based on the Bombard Commando C3 with added Scotty Fishing attachments, a fish finder/GPS, Scotty strong back oar conversion kit, adjustable oars, collapsible paddles, bimini top, Yamaha F20, bench on rail seats, and more.

Setup with the outdoorsman in mind this package can be broken down and packed for transport by, auto, truck, or plane and reassembled on site to go where the sidewalks end. Suitable for waterfowl hunting, fish, crabbing, big game, or even just a fun day trip. With the Bombard Commando C3’s wooden keel assembly is easy and choppy water is a walk in the park.

The Yamaha F20 four stroke motor operates very quietly and barely makes a sound at idle. The clean and efficient Yamaha F20 can make your precious fuel supply on back country hunts seem to last almost indefinitely when used smartly thereby extending your reach. Full throttle operation brings the “RECON” on plane with three to four men aboard and tops out around 25 mph at sea level. Two separate shallow water settings on the Yamaha F20 will make possible entry into sloughs and creeks while fully laden with a hunting camp gear a breeze and make you wonder why you didn’t think of the “RECON” sooner.

This boat is quite possibly the best boat package ever made for the Northwest Territories and coastal regions because of it’s carrying capacity, ease of use, and safety.

You can see one in person at the NW Sportsman Show booth #1143 and talk to Adam or Mike about what you want to do or where you want to go and get one made for yourself custom. We love the water and the woods and it’s very likely that’s where these two guys would be if they weren’t there to meet you and talk about exciting times to be had with inflatable boats.

Bombard C5 Commando + Mini Helm + Tohatsu 50hp Package

It’s that time of year when the days get shorter and the activities change. I love the fall and winter because I get to go boating more now that the last minute summer customers aren’t desperately trying to squeeze me out of time off. Summer comes every year but the lack of planning is astounding. It never fails, I get the call for an immediate need of a boat before Friday or any other random day with only one days notice. The lack of planning doesn’t always end well so plan for next season now or you might be disappointing the family.

Back to the Bombard I mentioned above, sorry for the tangent, the lack of sun and the cold rain and snow means it’s crabbing and hunting time! Woo Hoo now it’s my time to play on the water, go diving and spearfishing, and I always use my Bombard Commando for the mission.

IBC had the opportunity to rig a Bombard C5 Commando for a customer who loves to travel around the country and fish bass, as well as some big game adventures and extended arctic trips. So why not a Bombard Commando C5?

For his moose hunting mission we added a min-console with adjustable bench on rail system powered by a 50 hp Tohatsu. The system is variable trolling rpm active by a push of the ignition key in 100 rpm increments allowing for some salmon fishing while he makes camp for moose. Right now the boat is in Colorado then on the way to Missouri for that  bass mission but I was able to grab a few pics before it left the shop. Questions call us here at IBC (503) 235-2628 or visit us online at The Inflatable Boat Center

Bombard Commando C5 TLDI 2Stroke 50Hp Package with Bimini Top

Another Bombard Commando application came thru the tech area recently with a request for a high performance two stoke outboard. Taking a page out of Mike’s operational manual IBC went with the Tohatsu TLDI 50Hp 2 stroke outboard with multi-function tiller option. IBC added a custom camo bimini top a 12 gallon forward mounted fuel tank and various rigging components to offer the customer a setup like Mike runs for blistering performance when it counts. Of course Mike won’t run a bimini top on his Bombard Commando, but that doesn’t mean you can’t. With the IBC removable bimini system you can do what you want in fair weather or foul.

The Tohatsu TLDI (Two Stroke Direct Injection) motor offers a broadened power band and ultra low emission 3 star CARB rating in a package that is very eco-friendly and fuel efficient. The 2 stroke Tohatsu outboards are being used by some of the very best operators in the military as well as the professional front for their high performance and ultra-reliability in conditions that kill lesser motors dead. (note these special forces variants aren’t available to the public at this time) Much of the boat to boat footage and other marine based operations IBC conducts throughout the year are powered by this work horse of a motor that is rarely seen on camera.

Forget about mixing gas the TLDI does all the math and heavy lifting for you so all the operator has to do is twist the throttle and point the bow. With it’s sophisticated ignition timing and fuel air mixture control the Tohatsu works well at most altitudes and environments whether salt, fresh or brackish waters. The Tohatsu TLDI doesn’t ask for fanfare it simply accomplishes the mission and goes home like a true silent professional.

By using Zodiac’s Bombard Commando as a platform operators experience greater mission capabilities due to it’s Strongan Duotex fabric that is “thermo-bonded” in Zodiac’s state of the art French facility. Usually when someone is talking about their “Zodiac” they aren’t actually talking about a real French Zodiac like the Bombard Commando series. Often times they are talking about some other brand “X” inflatable boat that people like to call a Zodiac. Insist on the boat the legend is based on, insist on a real Zodiac inflatable boat like the Bombard Commando, Zodiac Futura, or Zodiac Classic and never compromise your safety or performance again.

The Bombard Commando C5 in this article is yet another we have to move out of the shop to make way for the next Bombard Commando C5 that is getting rigged for yet another customer wanting the best his money will buy. Enjoy the pictures below and remember when you are ready to go Commando give IBC a call first (503)235-2628 and see why we are rated #1 for Bombard Commando applications anywhere there is water.

Rozalia Project’s Year In Review

IBC provided Rozalia Project’s Bombard Commando C3 for their extended mission profile and they have been using it like it was meant to be used. The Bombard C3 Commando was recommended to them by high latitude sailor Skip Novak as the go to expedition boat for remote access. IBC also uses the Bombard Commando series of inflatable boats for much of their use as well. Capt. Ron raced his C3 Commando just about everywhere to much acclaim for example. We have countless surfers, fishermen, explorers, and recreational users going where others can’t in their Bombard Commandos. Unbelievable carrying capacity on an ultra-stable platform means impossible things become realities. Check out Rozalia Project’s video below and see some of the things they do in their Bombard Commando C3.

Rozalia Project’s mission is to clean and protect the ocean. This video, by Alex Levin, introduces Rozalia Project through the experience of the ParleyxRozalia Expedition.

ParleyxRozalia: An Expedition for the Oceans took place in July and August of 2015 on remote islands and hard to reach shorelines in the Gulf of Maine. Our objective was to pick up as much ocean trash as we could, bring it back to the mainland for upcycling and recycling and work with coastal residents to collect data and develop solutions to the problem.

Thanks to our partner, Parley for the Oceans, and parters and host organizations around the country, during this expedition, we removed over 130,000 pieces of marine debris from shorelines, engaged thousands of people in person and through social media and collected data that will lead us to solutions and innovations to get ahead of this problem.

Zodiac Takes Over and Avon Comes Back

If you were at the Zodiac press release in Fort Lauderdale today you would have heard some knowns and some unknowns. The obvious is Zodiac’s new leadership is poised like a panther to take on it’s myriad competitors in the Asian manufacturing sector. Offering new life, new products and genuine Zodiac materials and builds at similar pricing structures to the cheap knock offs flooding the market today means Zodiac is future minded.

I remember the glory days of Zodiac, I remember the influx of copy cats and the shrinking market as a result of the poor quality and support of said copy cats. The Zodiac brand suffers when consumers think of the cheap knock offs as Zodiacs just because they are inflatable. Zodiac has stood strong the test of time for over 100 years as the inventor and innovator of the inflatable boat platform.

Zodiac’s new leadership is taking names and putting them on notice with real serious inflatable boats and RIBs like the days of yore but utilizing the ultra bleeding edge of technology and material science that today has to offer.

I’ve used Zodiacs as a fisherman, a sailor, and as a specialist in the US Navy’s Rescue Dive and Salvage community. I continue to use Zodiacs today as a tool to fun and freedom like it was when I was a child watching Cousteau and reading Bombard.

AVONLOGO

Make no mistakes great things are coming from Zodiac like the re-emergence of the Avon line! Woot Woot! If you are a sailor like me and have the high latitudes and the equatorial regions under your belt then you know that Avon was the go to tender for any sloop rig on the high seas. Easy to roll and stow the Avon represented quality for the active yachtsman. Yes Zodiac and Avon have lived under the same roof for some time with Bombard it is a very happy family with strong values. The Avon plant has been tasked with much of the military and professional work these past years and as a result the Avon line hasn’t been available to recreational users like the white water crowd and the sailing crowd.

All I can say is the thrill is back and everyone is giddy with excitement for the legend of Zodiac and what comes next.

Expect great things from Zodiac, Avon and Bombard as we move forward and as always IBC has got you covered no matter where in the World you find yourself.

Press release below take from “Trade Only Today”

FORT LAUDERDALE — Zodiac Nautic, the world’s oldest and largest manufacturer of RIBs and inflatables, said Thursday at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show that the industry and consumers should expect a significant revival of the venerable brand.

“Zodiac is a wonderful brand. I am no miracle worker, but Zodiac is a sleeping giant,” said CEO Dominique Heber-Suffrin, who assumed ownership with partners in July after years of financial trouble for the iconic French builder.

Heber-Suffrin said the U.S. market accounts for 40 percent of Zodiac’s global business and that under his leadership “accelerated growth here in the U.S.” will be a priority.

Zodiac has manufacturing plants in France, Tunisia and South Carolina.

Heber-Suffrin promised new-boat introductions at the Miami International Boat Show in February, a renewed marketing campaign, new incentive programs for consumers and a reintroduction of the Avon brand.

Zodiac Visit

A couple of weeks ago we had the West Coast  Zodiac rep Chris by for a visit so we went for a boat ride of course! We met up with Adam +1 on the Columbia River who was out for a weekend sail on his S&S Yankee 30 and did a business lunch at the Puffin Café in Washington.

puffin cafe meeting

Chris was a bit sore from playing Aussie Rules footie the day before so Mike took it easy on him with his Bombard C4R Commando, they still went faster than everyone else on the choppy river though.

Some of what Mike calls basic drills ( if you know Mike you would call them expert advanced) were performed and Chris took the tiller doing quite well despite his badly beaten body. He had no trouble going 35mph through the worst of the wind chop in the C4R Commando and at one point this writer looked over and saw him several feet in the air. Go Chris, Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi!

zodiac chris

After lunch Mike and Chris said goodbye to Adam’s sailing crew and went for some impromptu beaching ops.

adam says goodbye

zodiac beach ops

The weather was perfect and good times were had by all including the mind blown jet skiers and other boaters. At one point a jet skier that Chris and Mike blew by came alongside while Mike was on the phone to see just what we were piloting. When we told the befuddled jet skier that it wasn’t a r.i.b. he was blown away that a boat as small as 14 feet with a soft bottom  could do so much and go so fast all the while keeping it’s composure in the 3 foot chop. The Bombard name says  it all to those in the know.
